First Visit to Duc Son Orphanage

,

As we were celebrating OrFA’s one year anniversary on April 2, 2013 at a small bar in the East Village,
we reflected on the journey we’ve taken to get to this point. After visiting Duc Son Orphanage in 2011,
we were inspired by the joy and appreciation these children had after receiving our donations of new
shoes and school fees for the year. Our relatively small donations elicited not only hopeful faces and
bright smiles but also planted the potential for a brighter future for these children. This future is not
always certain as it is for people who have been blessed to have nurturing parents who support their
education. We came back from this trip with a sense of purpose and managed to get our other co-
founder, Sen Lin, to join the cause. Although this project turned out to be much more complex than
we initially, perhaps naively, expected, what got us through those difficult moments was knowing that
we had the support of our friends, family and volunteers behind each and every one of our efforts. It
started with our executive team (which included us, Nam Hoang, Nicole Fowler, Deandrea Woods and My Le) and grew
to a team of over 40 people who are involved with OrFA through in various teams and functions. Our
volunteers and supporters are the foundation of this organization and we feel very lucky to have such
great people to collaborate with everyday.

Everything has progressed very quickly including getting our 501(c)(3) in record time. Along the way,
there have been various roadblocks, like establishing our presence in Vietnam. We are lucky to have
great volunteers in Vietnam to navigate and work with the local government as well as our team of
volunteers here in the United States that have pressed on relentlessly through […]

OrFA’s Winter Kick-Off Event 2013

, , ,

OrFA hosted our first ever Winter Kick-Off Event in November 2013!  There were drinks, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and holiday cheer while helping support our efforts in Vietnam.  We’d been working very hard all year to start building the foundations for our international operations and we were excited to continue this growth in 2014. We’d recently started partnering with an orphanage in Vietnam which currently has 73 orphans.  They’re ready and excited to participate in our Fresh Start Program and your support will help fund these orphan’s primary school education for the next 2 years.
Now for some fun details! The event kicked off with a happy hour sponsored by Tiger Beer, the national beer of Singapore which is the featured beer at all Momofuku restaurants!  We had a silent auction which will included items like:

Private cooking lesson with a celebrity chef
Photo session with professional wedding photographer
Custom couture cake
Limited edition artwork
A closet cleanse with a celebrity personal stylist
Autographed sports memorabilia
Personal make-up session

Visit to Vietnam

, , , ,

In December 2013 OrFA’s founders Thai-Anh and Chau traveled to Vietnam to hold a series of meetings with fellow NGO’s and government officials to further OrFA’s on the ground efforts in Vietnam. These meetings mark a very exciting time for OrFA as our organization worked to develop important contacts. Connecting with other NGO’s who have experiencing in not only working with Vietnam’s children but have experience with working within Vietnam’s governmental structure will help OrFA become a stronger force in Vietnam.

In addition to meeting with several NGO’s Thai-Anh and Chau met with governmental officials from PACCOM. This agency is responsible for assisting OrFA in its official NGO designation in Vietnam. Being recognized in as an NGO will allow us to begin fundraising and putting more money and time into Vietnam’s orphanages. As of the end of January OrFA is just a few signatures away from having our official designation as an NGO.

This is a very exciting time for OrFA! We look forward to all the opportunities that 2014 will bring to us as an organization and all those that we will be able to help. As we move forward this year we will continue to keep all of you updated on all the happenings with OrFA.
